Physicians

Dr. Jean-Louis Selam, Dr. Joanna Van and Dr. John Kim are committed to the research of protocols full-time and are directly involved in the performing and documentation of study visits.

They are supported by a team of study coordinators, a dietitian, a budget/regulatory manager and a marketing team. 

Dr. Jean-Louis Selam

 

Dr Selam received his undergraduate education and medical doctorate in France, University of Montpellier. He has been an Internal Medicine specialist in Endocrinology in France since 1979 and licensed in California since 1987. He has worked as an associate professor at University of California Irvine Diabetes Research Program 1986-90 then as an associate professor at University Medical School of Paris, dept of Diabetology 1990-2003. He has been appointed in 2005 as Visiting Professor by the USC School of Medicine, Los Angeles. Dr. Selam has a 40+ year experience as a Principal Investigator with an experience of more than 250  studies, the majority in the fields of insulin, oral medications, neuropathy and obesity.

 

Dr Selam is the author of 120+ peer-reviewed publications, 130+ invited articles or chapters in books, and 350+ conference presentations, the majority in the field of new techniques of insulin therapy including intensive insulin and implantable insulin pumps, which he is considered as a world leader. He also has performed pioneer work on intraperitoneal insulin and insulin-induced remissions. 

Dr. Joanna Van

 

Dr Van received her undergraduate degree from University of California, San Diego in Biological Sciences. During and after her undergraduate education she authored and co-authored numerous research publications in the field of Diabetes Medicine. After working in the industry she returned to pursue medical school and completed her residency training in Family Medicine at Arrowhead County Regional Medical Center (a UCI Affiliate Program). Upon graduation, she began working at St Jude Heritage Medical Group. During her tenure with St Jude, Dr Van was nominated as one of Orange County’s Physicians of Excellence by Orange Coast Magazine (January 2013 issue).

 

Since 2007, Dr Van has served as a consultant for the University Clinical Investigators and Clinical Trial Investigators. She has been the primary and sub-investigator for multiple diabetes studies.

She admits that her job satisfaction comes primarily from her passion for her patients' well-being and her personal commitment to providing quality medical research.

Dr. John Kim

 

Dr. Kim received his undergraduate degree from University of California, Riverside obtaining a major in biological sciences as well as a minor in economics.  His interest in clinical research developed in 2004 while doing cancer research at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles.  He went on to Western University of Health Sciences for his medical degree.  He completed his residency training in Family Medicine at the University of California, Irvine.  

 

In his practice of more than 10 years, Dr. Kim observed the many difficulties of treating chronic medical conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, and obesity.  He believes that clinical research and trials holds the key to improving healthcare globally and is focused on finding means to help patients live healthier lives.
